Have you ever taken “Test in Practical English Proficiency”
(so-called “Eiken”) or given a speech in English?
Since all members of Kyoto NHK ESS must be very interested in English,
I guess all of you might have taken this test, at least once.
As you may know, the 2nd stage exam for 3rd grade and above is
a speaking test in which the examinee is given a personal interview
to determine the examinee’s communicative English ability.
In the 1st Grade interview test, the examinee is first required to make
a two-minute speech and then to answer questions posed by the examiners
regarding the speech topic.
Why not practice this in ESS? It’s very stressful giving a speech in public,
and it’s worse in English. Once you get used to it, however,
you will eventually get to enjoy it.
Let’s try it and you’ll pass the 1st level of “Eiken”!
