What's New at Kyoto NHK ESS?

Genre：Speech
Title：One minute speech No.3

This is my third time to carry out this type of practice.

Let’s train your reflex power in a talk.

Here is the process.

1. Make groups with 3 members in each.

2. Each group has 20 topics written on pieces of paper in a holder.

3. The first speaker draws one piece from the holder and speaks about the topic for one minute.

Then the second person speaks about the same topic.

Next, the third person follows.

4. The second person draws a new piece after all members finish speaking about the first topic.

Then start the second round.

5. The third person continues the same process.

You don’t need to think the topic seriously but need to speak smoothly about what you think of.

Please keep speaking as much as you can for a minute.

I expect you will be tired but hope you would enjoy this practice.

Genre: Discussion

Title: Where do you want to live?

Questions;

1. What country do want most to live other than Japan?

2. What country do you want most to visit for a tour or a short stay other than Japan?

This may be the questions that you often asked to others or are asked from others. However, this time, I'd like you to make your answers into one group answer and with at least 5 reasons. OK? The answer may not include Japan. Some conditions may be added to your answers. And finally, I want you to recommend the place to other members in the room just as a tourist guide.

Talk about the place you like maybe with your good memories on its scenery, good welcome of people or whatever even its history, political situation. I hope you will enjoy the practice.

Dear ESS members,

This is the announcement for the practice on July 26.

Genre: Presentation

Title: Let`s make your own story with key words.

Process:

1. Make 6 groups.

2. I distribute a bundle of cards for each table. One word is written on each card.
One member distributes five cards for each member in the group.　So, each member gets five key words.

3. Each member makes his or her own story with key words in five minutes and makes a presentation in the group.
Any topic is OK if these key words are contained in the story. The length of the story is up to each.
One to two minutes presentation would be adequate for one story.

4. After all members in a group make a presentation, another member collects the cards, shuttles them and distributes fives cards for each.
The procedure is the same above

5. Please go on the same process as long as time is allowed

Please try to make your own story with originality and the sense of humor!!

Title: Ogiri（Shouten）

Contents
1. Please make some gropes as usual and choose the emcee(chairman).
2. The emcee have to decide the theme (Odai)and other members have to
think over the funny and witty answers on Odai for ten minutes.
3. The emcee please leads other members and other members announces
the answers by Ogiri style in front of other groups by turns(Time limit
of one group is about ten minutes ).
4. The person taken the most cushions will be presented the good
prize(True?).

(Answer)If whoever hits you on the cheek,offer him the other for peace.
2.(Theme)The unpleasant World Cup game
(Answer)The game that there are many supporters for the beaten team.

Each of you have to bring your favorite book relating to English .

2) Take turns introducing other members to your favorite book.

3) Decide one person who makes a 3-minute presentation. S/he cannot use ' power point' or 'slides'.

4) Take a vote.

Genre: Making A Story
Contents
1. Divide into 5 or 6 groups. Each group has 5 or 6 members.
2. Practitioner gives you some start sentence
3. The first role of each group has to choose one start sentence and
improvise and add on one sentence.
4. The second to the fourth role of each group add on one sentence.
5. The fifth role of each group conclude the whole story.
6. Next game start from the second role person of each group.
Same thing to do the first role person conclude the sentence.
(continue until the time permit )
I will give you some start sentence just before practice.
I hope you to make drastic, happy, comical or romantic stories.
